EFFORT BY ROUND .UP ANION RUNS FIVE SMARTLY SPRINT BY BACHELOR KING The inside grass. • with tlio poles out Oft., was in excellent order for fast work at Takanini yesterday, when a few interesting gallops wore recorded. Round Up went pleasingly over six furlongs, while .Anion enhanced his Ellerslio prospects hv working well over five furlongs. Bachelor King and Poker Dice also galloped smartly over three furlongs. Round Up (Collett) and Silver Glow (G. Smith) were associated over six furlongs in 1.14 the last three in 30 3-ss. Although Round Up appreciated the. going, it was a good piece of work on the part of Silver Glow. Anion (Stone) was timed to run five furlongs in 1.2 .'5-5. Ho is in excellent condition. Sir Robin (Tinker) was sweating freely after covering three furlongs in 40s. Nordic Song (C. Walters) went leisurely over the same ground. Ho bears a muscular appearance. Arvakur (O'Brien) and Brazilian (Collett) finished about six lengths in front of Perillus (Stone) at the end of four furlongs in 50 2-ss, running the last three in 37 3-ss. Royal Passage Goes Freely Inquisitor, the two-year-old by Vaals from Limecn in C. Morse's stable, had a couple of short spurts. The Vaals youngster is a good mover. Royal Passage (Mudford) was holding Parquet (i3ell) at the end of six furlongs in 1.19, running the last three in 42 l-ss. Royal Passage went more freely than usual. Spearcourt (Tinker) and Royal Message (Mudford) completed thrco furlongs in 39 3-ss. Royal Message is the filly by Bronze Eagle from Green Bonnet in A. Quinlivan's stable. Spearcourt came out later and went four furlongs with Bon Star (Mudford) in 51 2-ss. Ivy Willonvx (Bell) went nearly as well as Palustre (Curwen) while covering five furlongs in 1.4, the last three in 395. It was an encouraging gallop for a maiden. Raepata (Mudford) went away slowly from the mile post and ran home in 1.47 3-5. He took 41s over the first three, and came home well over the last three in 40s. Raepata showed a lot of dash over the last furlong. Fast Three Furlongs Bachelor King (T. Green) gave Poker Dice (A. Tinker) a break of two lengths over three furlongs, which he covered in the good timo of 35 3-ss. They went from the six to the three, and ran the last furlong in 11 3-ss. Both went well.

W. Townsend has a neat gelding named Royevrus, which is Surveyor spelt backward. Royevrus is from Desert Fire and in his first sprint ran a furlong in 13 l-ss. A good exhibition of jumping was given by High Quality (C. Walters) and Lady Ruler (F. E. Baker), who went a mile and three-quarters and negotiated four flights of hurdles. Both performed well. It was the first jumping High Quality has had since racing at Christchurch in August. Lady Ruler should make a good showing at Ellerslie on Saturday. All the candidates for Ellerslie will strip in fit ..condition. Lady Astrid (Murtagh) ran the last two furlongs of her work in 28s. Ga'llio' (Goulsbro) pleased by coming home from the six furlongs peg in 1.16 1-5. He is in excellent fettle. Barricade (Goulsbro) easily completed the distance in 1.23 2-5. Balinavar (Home) with the assistance of British Nation (Lewis) over the last five furlongs, completed seven furlongs in 1.30, the last five in 1.5. Balinavar looks improved for his Avondale racing, and should hold good prospects. Hutnna (Home) covered six furlongs in 1.18 4-ss. Galilee (Goulsbro) was sent five furlongs with Lady Diana joining in for the last two, and took 1.3 2-5 —a nice effort. Loombinatiou (Home) was sent a mile and a-quarter. After taking 37 3-5s for the first three furlongs, he completed his task in 2.16. Besiege (Goulsbro) ran five furlongs in 1.7, the last three in 39 l-ss. He worked well. Celtic Lad (Savage) and Cape Maria (Home) dashed over their last quarter in 275. To Hero and First Flutter were not after time. On the inner plough were Uluininagh, Orate, Torch, Cheval de Voice, The Ace-Lady Cintra gelding, Clooneen, Maxown, Tonnerre, Nugget, the VnalsGold Bud filly, Dombey. Lady Meath, Muskon, Rulctte and Tuaheahe. GORDON HANDICAP DIVISIONS ARRANGED Owing to the number of acceptors for the Gordon Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday exceeding the safety number by three, arrangements have been made to run the event in two divisions

necessary. If tlio race is divided,
