MARKING OF HIGHWAY
WHITE LINES AT BENDS PAPATOETOE SUGGESTION "The department should welcome suggestions, especially in view of the road-safety campaign," said Mr. W. A. Cairns, at the Papatoetoe Town Board meeting last night, when a letter was received from the Commissioner of Transport, .Mr. G. Laurcnson. acknowledging the board's recommendation that white centre lines be painted on all bends of the Great South Road. The commissioner stated the matter was primarily one for the Main Highways Board, to which authority the recommendation had been passed on. The stricter enforcement of the regulations would probably have the effect of drawing motorists' attention to the necessity for treating the black line with respect, and instructions were being given accordingly to inspectors in the Auckland district. It was decided to await information of the Highways Board attitude before considering further action.
