MILD DAY TEMPERATURES

The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —An anti-cyelone now extends from Eastern Australia across the Tas-., man Sea on to New Zealand, but a" series of slight secondary depressions continues to pass in the far south. The forecast is for south-westerly to westerly winds predominating, strong at ' times about Cook and Foveaux Straits, but otherwise light to moderate, veering to north-westerly in the southern portion of the South Island and also in the Cook Strait area. Seas rather rough on the Otago and Southland coasts; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasraan Sea:—Light to moderate southerly winds in the northern and central portions, with slight to moderate seas; moderate to fresh westerlies in the southern portion, with rather rough seas. The weather is likely to be fine is most districts, with cool nights but mild day temperatures. A few scattered showers are probable, however in the far south and western Otago. SPECIAL AUCKLAND EOKECAST FINE AND MILD, LIGHT WINDS The Government meteorologist issued to the Hehald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate southerly winds, later becoming variable. The weather is likely to be fine and mild. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland.—Cloudy but fine conditions, with a fresh south-south-west wind, ruled during yesterday. Temperatures were cool, the maximum reading being 58 degrees. Last night the wind was light from the south-west and skies were overcast. Barometric pressure was steady. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.15 in,' Midnight, Monday . ' .. 30.l0ln! Wellington.—The day was brilliantly fine, with a northerly breeze during the morning, which freshened during the afternoon. The minimum temperature on Monday night was 41.7 degrees and the maximum to-day 60.8 degrees. '

Christchurch. —The clay was fine and sunny with a moderate north-east breeze. The barometer fell slightly and thn reading at 5 p.m. was 29.90 inches.

Dunedin.—There was bright sunshine for a period of over 12 hours. A light south-west-west breeze prevailed and the maximum temperature vrias 62 degrees.
