EXPLORER IN RAGS
BACK FROM TURKESTAN NEWS OF AWARD AMAZES BOMBAY, Oct. 3 A message from Srinagar, Kashmir, states that Dr. Wilhelm Filchner, the German explorer who was imprisoned in Chinese Turkestan for nine months, has arrived there clad in rags. He was dazed to learn that he had been selected by the German Government as the recipient of a £SOOO national prize to replace the annual Nobel Prizes. Dr. Filchner was accompanied by his companion in the adventure, Dr. Haack.
"Is tlioro a war anywhere?" and "How are my daughters?" were the first questions Dr. Filchner asked on his arrival.
