ROCK AND EARTH FALL

INJURIES TO COMPANION ACCIDENT IN BULLER GORGE [RT TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION J WESTPORT, Monday An accident on the Buller Gorge road about a mile from Tiroroa, at 1.30 p.m. to-day, resulted in the death of Mr. Ellis Leonard Hawke, single, aged 27 years, and injuries to Mr. Claude Thomas Floharty, aged 49, married, with four children. Mr. Floharty was admitted to hospital with a fractured right leg and abrasions to the face and body. The accident occurred at the scene of road widening work. The men were engaged in trimming the road surface and water table when without warning a fall occurred from a batter of 25 to 30 tons of rock and earth. Mr. Hawke was apparently killed instantaneously.
