CROQUET SEASON

THREE CLUBS BIGIN PLAY St. Heliert. Bay.—The official opening of the St. Heliers Bay Croquet Club was held at the greens on Saturday. The president, Mrs. H. Goldsbro, welcomed members and friends and after playing the first ball, declared the greens open. Progressive A grade croquet was played, the winners being Mrs. Keys; B grade, Mrs. G. Laslett; hidden number, Mrs. Skene. Rocky Nook Club.—The official opening of the Rocky Nook Croquet Club took place on Saturday, when the president, Mrs. W. 11. Keatley, welcomed a large number of members, honorary members, and visitors from sister clubs. Mrs. C. Webber, president of the Auckland Croquet Association, wished the club every success during the coming season. The senior member of the club, Mrs. T. Hodgson, played the first ball. Members of the executive present were: —Mrs. Keesing (secretary), Mrs. T. A. Finch, Mrs. C. McGill, Mrs. J. Clarke, Mrs. E. A. Robertson and Mrs. J. Bndeley. Mrs. Keatley presented prizes to the following players.—A grade: Mrs. R. Randrup, Mrs. Preston, Mrs. McAnenay; B grade: Mrs L. Scott, Mrs. J. Young. Mrs. Corncs.

Papatoetoe Club. —The official opening of the Papatoetoe Croquet Club took place on Saturday afternoon. A number of players representing city and suburban clubs attended the opening, these including Mrs. Webber, president of the Auckland Association. Mrs. Clarke and Mrs. Keesing. Mrs. Parker Hill, president of the club, in opening the greens, asked Mrs. Weston, one of the club's foundation members, to play the first ball. The lawns were taxed to accommodate the many players in the competition, which resulted as follows:—A grade, Mrs. Hickson; B grade, Mrs. Penman (Mahgere East); consolation, Mrs. Boyce and Mrs. Parr.
