ST. JAMES' THEATRE " The Good Earth,", in which the notable players Paul Muni and Luise Rainer give brilliant interpretations or the Chinese peasant Wang and his wife O-lan, will again l Je screened at St. James' Theatre to-dav. A remarkable feature of the film is the beautiful outdoor photography. The next attraction at St. James' Theatre, " Saratoga," Avill commence a season on Friday. This picture, which deals with the sport of racing in the United States, is of interest to theatre-goers not only from its story, but also because .it was the film in which the late Jean Harlow was engaged at the time of her death. Although almost £200,000 had been spent on the making of the picture, the Metro-Goldwyn-Ma,yer Company intended to suspend production, and finished the film only through the insistent demand of picture-goers throughout the world. Tne result is a picture that should disappoint no one, blending humour with an exciting story. The closing scenes were made with an actress bearing a remarkable resemblance to Jean Harlow in her role, and a fine performance is given by Clark Gable in support. EMBASSY THEATRE A stirring drama of life in the American underworld is unfolded in the Warner Brothers production " Marked Woman," which is to conclude its season at the Embassy Theatre to-morrow. Bette Davis, who will be remembered for her impressive portrayal in "Dangerous," has the leading role, Humphrey Bogart appearing opposite her. On Thursday a comedy on novel lines, " The Dominant Sex," is to have its first.screenings at the Embassy Theatre. The screen version of a well-known play by Michael Egan, "The Dominant Sex" has a number of outstanding players in the main parts, including Diana Churchill, Phillips Holmes and Romney Brent. An excellent supporting programme will also be shown. TIVOLI THEATRE An outstanding programme will be screened at the Tivoli Theatre to-night, when guest-night concessions will be available to patrons. The first film is entitled "Secret Bride," in which the fine actor Warren William is supported by the promising young actress Barbara Stanwyck. The second main feature, "White Cockatoo," is remkable for the fine performances of the two leading players Jean Muir and Ricardo Cortcz. A comedy, a musical, and a cartoon comprise the remainder of the programme. ROXY AND TIVOLI THEATRES An event of extreme interest to all boxing enthusiasts, the recent heavyweight fight) between Joe Louis and Tommy Farr for the world title, will be presented at the Roxy and Tivoli Theatres commencing from to-morrow. Brought to Australia by air, and coming to New Zealand by the first boat available, this record of a'great match is certain to attract the interest of many Aucklanders. STATE THEATRE, ONEHUNGA The spectacular musical comedy " Swing High, Swing Low " heads the programme to be screened at the State Theatre, Onehunga, to-night. LONDON CINEMA Two full-length pictures of unusual merit, " Break of Hearts " and " Public Nuisance No. 1," comprise the programme to be shown at the London Cinema to-day. CRYSTAL PALACE AND RIALTO Two full-length pictures, " Outcast of Poker Flat and " Daddy and I," are to be screened at the Crvstal Palace and Rialto Theatres to-night. PRINCESS THEATRE An entertaining musical film, " Hooray For Love," r is to be shown at the Princess Theatre to-night, together with " Helldorado." CAPITOL THEATRE A double-feature programme comprising "Midshipmaid" and "Solitaire Man" is to be screened at the Capitol Theatre to-night.
