THE PEOPLE'S BOOK
Sir,—The Rev. J. C. Fiuisell says he is puzzled to understand why any serious thinker can wish to keep the Bible out of our schools. The explanation is quite simple. The Mible is a controversial book and it is almost axiomatic that controversial subjects should be taught controversially Many of the Bible-in-Schoois advocates have askeil that the Bible should be put in to be read "without comment" and so on. Such a procedure would carry with it the implication that all the book's daims and contentions were sound and irrefutable. The supporters of the present secular system believe that the Bible-in-Schoois movement is simply an attempt to catch Miildren young and prejudice their minds. Are we unduly suspicious? G. M. CI.KCHOHN.
