FAT STOCK SALES

PRICES AT WESTFIELD

MARKET GENERALLY FIRM DEARTH OF -PRIME QUALITY Stock was less plentiful at the Westfield fat stock sales yesterday, but owing to a lack of quality prices were no more than firm. Beef remained unaltered to 41s per 1001b. for the sixth Kuccessive week. The sheep salo was again subdued, more shorn sorts being available, aiul spring lambs sold readily. Calf quality was generally unattractive, but high bids again ruled. More pigs were traded at late rates. There was an average yarding of beef. Ox quality remained fairly sound, but there was again a dearth of good stock among cows and heifers. Prices for steers ranged to £lB ss, which was slightly under the bidding of a week ago, but there were again a number of lines which made over £l7 a head. The pick of the cow market realised £l4 17s 6tl, the general run again selling at over £lO Dull Sheep Competition Sheep pens were only partly filled in comparison with recent entries. All classes were very slow of sale, competition being the dullest for some weeks. Wethers in the wool sold to 43s 6d, which indicated the lack of heavy stock, which made to 50s a head last week. Shorn sorts brought to 33s 6d. Woolly ewes were priced to 41s, which was (3d under the top bid of the last falo, and shorn owes wero. auctioned to 25s 9d.

Shorn lionets wore offered for the first time this season, realising to 2bs 6d each. Prime grades sold to 39s 6d. which was slightly below last week's scale. Weedy hoggets were offered to about 255. About 50 spring lambs came forward, keen buying being observed in this section. Prices .similar to those at tho previous salo were obtained, from 21s 6d to 395. Calves Below Standard

Quality in the ftil! yarding of calves was not by any means up to standard. Prime calves were scarce, and realised fully late rates, but unfinished and small types wcro slightly lower in price. The choicest runner brought £9 7s, as against recent sales of over £lO, but a good vealer made £8 2s, compared with £6 15s for the best one last week. Good quality was found in a muchincreased yarding of pigs. Fats sold steadily throughout at values equal to last week, but prices for small stores and slips wero an average of Is a head cheaper. Baooners averaged to GJd per lb. and porkers to 7d.
