WILD CHASE SPRINTS TEST WITH HAUGHTY WINNER KINNOULL'S FOUR FURLONGS [I!Y TELKOIUrrr—OWN COllTtESrONdent] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday Conditions were very cold and unpleasant at Riccarton to-day, especially for tho early morning workers. The outside of the trial grass provided fast going.
Before breakfast Wild Chase and Haughty Winner ran four furlongs well in 50 2-ss, which was not equalled during the morning. Trench Fight had his first fast work since the Grand National meeting, covering half a mile at a strong pace. Paper Slipper was allotted a similar task.
Nightdress and Lazybones, who are to contest the Dunedin Guineas, ran half a mile in 525. Their stablemates Great Memory and Mulatto galloped six furlongs in 1.18.
After tho breakfast interval, Kinnoull and Parakino ran a smart halfmile in 50 3-ss. The former showing some of his old abdity. Their stablemates Rebel Lad, Grey Honour and Elloughton Lad were given strong work. Kinnoull, Parakino, Rebel Lad and Elloughton Lad will be rpced at Washdyke next month,, and will then go on to Trentham, where Grey Honour will also race.
Dropped Catch and Private Bunsby took 1.21 for six furlongs. Capo Gabo beat Redolent over the same ground in 1.22.
Happy Night finished well in front of Old Loyalty at the end of half 'a mile in 52 2-ss. Dictate and Owlsgleam ran the same distance in 51s.
Greek Shepherd showed that all is well with him again by accompanying Argentic over seven furlongs. Primak has been sent north to his new owner Mr. I. Mcßae, Masterton, and will probably be tried as a hurdler. The first foal to arrive at Mr. G. Murray-Aynsley's stud this season is a colt by Myosotis from Muff, dam of the two-year-old Rebellion, who is showing a lot of promise. The foal is tho earliest yet owned by Mr. Aynsley, who has ' always been in favour of late foals, ! allowing the mares to have the full benefit of the spring grass when they are born. Mr. Aynsley mentioned cases of horses he had trained, including Warstep, Footfall, Chide and Silver Scorn, who were all November foals. TALKING IMPRESSES MALA RUNS MILE IN 1.40 STERLING GALLOP BY AJAX SYDNEY, Sept. Q8 On the "A" grass track, which was fast, Mr. A. Cooper's pair. Talking and Mala, moiuppolised attention at Randwick this morning. Talking ran seven furlongs in_l.27 and, impressed, but the value of the gallop was reduced by the times of other horses' later. . Mala, ridden by M. McCarten, ran ■ a mile in 1.40, which.-he covered in bet- . ter style than Talking. The fastest six furlongs was registered by Gay Blonde and Turbine, who took 1.14. Both were unshod. Disalto impressed by running siv furlongs in 1.14}. Hua went scratchily at the commencement of nine furlongs, but finished well in 1.53, the last mile taking 1.40 i. Sal Volatile, an Epsom Handicap pqssibility, ran seven furlongs in 1.27}. 1 •The Metropolitan lightweight, Fugitive, beat Autoland over nine furlongs in .1.55, and finished strongly. Rival Hit ran four furlongs in 5135. He is settling down well.. Highborn beat Gilltown* oyer'a mil 6in 1.43, finishing detenhinediy.; /' ' _ - Gold Rod was given light work at Rosebery and satisfied his trainer G. Price. ' ' - " ' On the course proper at Victoria Park, Prittle Prattle went exceptionally well over six furlongs in 1.154. Ajax, assisted by Only One, ran a mile and a-quarter in 2.61.
