OBITUARY

MR. A. G. CROWE Tho death of Mr. Alexander George Crowo, a former well-known settler of Tatuanui, Waikato, lias occurred at* the age of 57 years. Born in the Hutt Valley. Mr. Crowo was the descendant of pioneer settlers of Wellington. His father, Mr. G. H. Crowe, who died in 19'28, was one of the first children born in the Wellington settlement. Air. A. G. Crowe's grandmother was Miss Jane Gifford. after whom was named the celebrated ship Jane Gifford, which, with tho Duchess of Argvle, was the first immigrant ship to arrive at Auckland. Miss Gifford was a member of a ship-building family. Mr. Crowe is survived by his wifo and two sons and two daughters. An only brother, Captain L. Crowe, is a master mariner in tlio intercolonial service. MR. 0. E. LAMB Tho death has occurred of Mr. Charles Elia Lamb, of To Aroha. Mr. Lamb was born in Paisley, Scotland, in 1860, and in his youth travelled in the interests of large linen manufacturers in both England and America. In 1894 ho came to New Zealand for health reasons, and went to To Aroha, where lie had lived ever since. He was well known in business circles in To Aroha. Mr. Lamb is survived by his wife. MR. H. E. ROBERTS The death has occurred, at tho age of 85 years, of Mr. Henry Edward Roberts, who had been a resident of tho Glonfielu and Northeoto districts for the Snst 40 years. When he arrived from edfordshire, England, he settled at Ekctahuna, where ho received a grant of two acres in tho township and 40 acres outside the town belt. He kept a vineyard at " Fairfield," Glenfiekl, for 10 years before settling at Northeoto 30 years ago. Mr. Roberts was unmarried.

The death has occurred after a brief illness of Mr. Alfred John Oxenliam, a well known Whakatnne resident. Born in Gisborne 55 years ago, Mr. Oxenham came to Whakatane about 1927. Ho took an active part in acclimatisation affairs. Ho leaves a widow, one sou and one daughter.
