REPORTER] WELLINGTON, Tuesday A decrease of £24)000 in tho gross total and one of £49,000 in the net total aro shown in the Public Works Estimates for tho construction, improvement and maintenance of roads and bridges. The estimated amount required to be voted is £1,046.000, compared with £1,070,000 last 1 year; credits-in-aid are estimated at £BO,OOO, compared with £55,000 last year; and the net total to be voted is £9GG,OOO, as against £1,015,000 last year. A sum of £4,153,868 is required to complete the works. The effect of tho reduction has not been noticeable, how&ver, in the votes for tho Auckland road districts. Although the Whangarei district will receive £155,310. against £206,730 last year, the Auckland district lias been voted £278,130, compared with £246,645 last year; and the Tauranga Koad" district has been allocated £89,675, against £66,475. Three particularly large grants are included in tho lists. One of £60,000 has baen allocated to the Waitakere Scenic Drive, another of £57,000 is for tho Rotorua-Waikaremoana drive, and a third, of £36,000, is for the Bryn-derwyn-Waipu road.
