CHANGEABLE AND SQUALLY RAIN' PROBABLE AT TIMES The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were ag follows:—An anti-cyclone covers the North Tasman Sea and extends to beyond northern New Zealand, while the first of a series of westerly depressions is crossing the Dominion to-day. The forecast is for moderate to strong westerly to south-westerly winds, of gale force in places south of New Plymouth and Napier, but decreasing and becoming more westerly to-morrow. Seas rough south of Caps Egmont and Castlepoint and rather rough north of Capo Egmont; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong south-westerly to westerly winds, reaching gale force at times in the southern portion; seas rather rough to rough. The weather is likely to be changeable and squally, with rain at times, moro especially in districts with a westerly aspect and the southern portion of the South Island. Some hail is probable at first in the coastal areas of the South Island. Temperatures are likely to become cooler temporarily.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FAIR TO CLOUDY, SOME RAIN The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to strong winds between west and sotith-west prevailing. The weather for the most part is likely to be fair to cloudy, but somp scattered showers are probable, more especially in the western area. Temperatures moderate. Seas rough on the west coast and moderate on the east coast.

YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Showery weather with a fresh to moderate south-westerly wind ruled yesterday. Temperatures were mild, the maximum reading being 62 degrees. Barometric pressure was steady. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.80 in. Midnight, Sunday .. .. 29.921n, Wellington.—The day was fair, mild and pleasant with a strong, squally north-westerly wind. The minimum temperature on Sunday night was 45.2 degrees and to-day 08.9 degrees. Christchurch. Fine and sunny weather prevailed in Christchurch this morning with a strong north-west wind. About 2 p.m. the wind changed suddenly, to the south west and increased to gjjtle force. There were several passing showers!. The barometer read 29.51 in. at 5 p.nr. and was rising steeply. Dunedin.—The day was cold with heavy rain showers and a light fall of snow on the hills. There was a gusty south-west wind, which reached a considerable velocity at times. The barometer fell to 29.40 in. in the morning, hut rose sharply in the afternoon to 27.70 in. The maximum temperature was 57 degrees, and the minimum 37 degrees.
