WAIHI MINE DISPUTE
SETTLEMENT REACHED MEN TO RESUME TO-DAY RESULT OF A CONFERENCE [by telegraph—own correspondent] WAIHI, Monday Work in the Waihi mine and the Waikino battery, which ceased when the night shift went off at eight o'clock on Thursday morning so that the workers couid attend a stop-work meeting of members of the Ohiuemuri. Mines and Batteries Union to consider a .case of alleged victimisation, should be in full swing when the day shift goes on to-morrow morning. A resumption of work was decided upon after a conference between the employers and representatives of the union had been held this afternoon. The Government was represented by the Hon. E. Dye, M.L.C., as chairman, ind Mr. L. Goodacre, inspector of awards. The company was represented by the New Zealand director and attorney, Mr. R. G. Milligan, the mine superintendent, Mr. H. W. Hopkins, and Messrs. J. L. Gilmour, W.* Morrison and A. C. Lowrie. The union representatives' were the president, Mr. J. Thorpe, the secretary, Mr. W. Bice, and Messrs. D. Fahe.y, J. Bincham, M. Berry, G. Lyall and W. King (Waihi), S. Elliott (Waikino), and C. Speedy (Golden' Dawn mine, Owharoa). After the conference the president of the union made -a. statement to the effect that a satisfactory agreement had been reached. The pumps would be Btarted to-night. :
