WEAK CALVES CARRIED

PROSECUTION OF CARTER NOMINAL PENALTY IMPOSED [FROM OCR OWN correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday The carriage of three bobby calves to the Horotiu freezing works on July 26 in a weak and immature condition was denied by Frank MacQuibban, a carrier, in the Hamilton Police Court to-day. Two inspectors gave evidence that the calves were under 24 hours of age, and were unfit for slaughtering for the bobby calf trade. Defendant said he had the reputation of carrying the lowest percentage of weak and immature calves in the district. The magistrate, .Mr. S. L. Paterson, said that as the case was the first of its kind that had come before him the penalty would be light. Defendant was lined 10s and costs.
