OBITUARY

MR. E. MORRISON The don'tli lias occurred at tho Auckland Hospital of Mr. Kd ward Morrison, of Mount Kdon, at the age of Jr 1 ". He was horn in Auckland. While still quite younji, Mr. Morrison went to Maliurangi with his parents, and the greater part of his life, except for one period when he was engaged in goldmining at Thames, was spent in fruitgrowing at Warkworth. He took a keen interest in native trees and some years ago he presented the Auckland War Memorial Museum with its largest collection of New Zealand woods. Mr. Morrison went to live at Mount Ivlen in lOL'9 and up to the tinio of his death ho continued to take a lively interest in his hobbies, fruitgrowing and gardening. He is survived by two sons and four daughters.

MRS. MARY CORNES The death li:is occurred of Mrs. Mary C'orncs. of Kaplan, in her 81st year. Mrs. Corncs, who was horn r-.car Aberdeen, arrived in Now Zealand on the ship Helonslre on Deceinher 2-1, lSt34, her parents settling with other Scottish iinmijzrants at I'okcno. Troubles with the Maoris added to the excitement of their stay there. After her marriage to the late Mr. John Comes, Mrs. Corncs took part in the early dnvs of tho Thames. Wnirongomai and Te Arolia goldliclds. The family finally settled at To Mata. Mrs. Corncs has recently been living in retirement at Maglan. She is survived by six sons and one daughter. MR. W. F. MARSH [HY TELEGItAPIf —IMIKSS ASSOCIATION] WELLIXOTON, Monday The death has occurred of Mr. William Fairchild .Marsh, aged 74. He was appointed a cadet in the Survey Department in 1879 and eventually occupied the dual positions of Chief Surveyor and Commissioner of Crown Lands, first for Westland and then for the Hawkc's Bay-Gisborne district, and finally for Auckland. Me retired in 1925. MR. J. GARBUTT [BY TKLKGIIAI'Il —PIIKSB ASSOCIATION I DUXEDIX, Monday The death has occurred of Mr. John Garbutt, aged 51 years, for the past 10 years probation officer in Dunedin. Originally he was a mental hospital attendant at Nelson, and later a Court orderly in Dunedin.
