POTATO SUPPLIES
NO DANGER OF SHORTAGE SURVEY BY DEPARTMENT [Br TELEGRAPH —PRESS association] CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday "There is no danger of New Zealand homes running short of potatoes," said Mr. R. B. Tennent, Director of, the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture, to-day. The department had conducted a survey during the last few days, and this disclosed that considerably more than 6000 tons of table potatoes were belli in store in the Dominion. This was quite apart from many lines still remaining on farms.
When tho department was issuing permits for the export of potatoes to Uruguay and Argentine earlier this year, there were some, Mr. Tennent said, who considered New Zealand was going to be short later on, and the survey recently undertaken was an endeavour to check up on the position. It was now apparent that with supplies householders already had this quantity of potatoes would meet any likely demands
