WOUNDED AMBASSADOR NO REPLY TO BRITAIN' REASONS FOR THE DELAY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON, August 31 Commenting on the delay of the Japanese in replying to the British Note regarding the wounding of the British Ambassador, the diplomatic correspondent of the Times says the Japanese Government is reported to be still without a despatch from its admiral at Shanghai and confusion on the roads has led to delay in finding the offending airmen. CHINESE BOYCOTT JAPAN LOSING TRADE RESIDENTS OF MALAYA >■ SINGAPORE, August 31 A widespread boycott of Japanese goods on the part of Chinese residents in Malaya lias resulted in increased orders for textiles for British firms. Tt is estimated that this is costing the Japanese £50,000 a week. A message from 'Polein states that ■with the excess of imports increasing, ill spite of exchange control, the Government has decided to undertake immediately the foreign trade control plan prepared earlier in the year. This will restrict imports of raw cotton, wool and general goods.
