AUGUST RECORD DRY MONTH WIND MUCH BELOW AVERAGE [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION*] WELLINGTON, Wednesday The month of August established a . new record in dryness in Wellington. Never before in August has so linle rain' been recorded The month almost reached the record for the least wind? August. The sunshine figures, however,- > were below normal, owing to the . prevalence of cloud. The mildness of the weather has resulted in vegetation making vigorous growth. In the latter part of theimontb the approximate mean temperature was 48.6 degrees. The highest maximum reading was G0.9 and the lowest 36.S degrees. The total rainfall was only I.o.'h'n. t against the previous lofrest of 1.l Gin. • liain in measurable quantity fell on only eight days. The rainfall for the year to the end of August is about Gin. less than the average. - The daily run of wind, during August was 12-3 miles, against an August arerage of 215 miles. Bright sunshine was •41 per cent of the possible.
