FEWER MOTOR-CYCLES

DECLINE IN POPULARITY LICENCE FIGURES ANALYSED Eelicensing figures for the past year indicate a decrease in the number of motor-cycles in use in New Zealand, according to a recent official statement by the registrar of motor vehicles. Examination of the figures further reveals that the decline is not of a temporary nature, but has been steady since 1926, when there were 26,642 motor-cycles registered. At the end of March, 1937, there were 24,201, although there were fewer in 1936, the number being 23,961.

There is an interesting seasonal aspect in connection with the licensing of motor-cycles. The figures in June are usually the lowest of the year, and this year they totalled 13,575. Evidently only slightly more than half -were relicensed in June, the balance of 10,626 remaining in storage awaiting fine weather and dry roads. Motor-cycles have become less popular, while the total number of motor vehicles in use has nearly trebled during the past 12 years.
