AMERICAN LABOUR

RIVAL ORGANISATIONS FURTHER FRICTION ARISES NEW YORK. August 10 The American Federation of Labour has ousted Harry Bridges, Australianborn Labour leader, from the district vice-presidency in California and suspended 10,000 members of the Longshoremen's Association for affiliating with John Lewis' Committee for Industrial Organisation. The efforts of the latter body to bring about large-scale organisation in another important industry occurred with a strike order from the Textile Workers' Union, calling out 30,000 employees from the silk and rayon industries in several States. Their principal demand is for the recognition of the C.1.0.
