"Wednesday The Wanganui City Council, at a special meeting, discussed proposals for improving Cook's Gardens by providing better terraced formations and building u£> the slope on the Wilson Street side of the oval. A committee was set up to ex&mine the grounds, and the engineer was instructed to prepare a report on a major scheme of improvement. The council also decided to go into the matter of raising loans of £12,000 or £20,000 for footpath improvements. One councillor stated that the reason Wanganui did not get a match with the Springboks was that there was no ground there big enough to accommodate the crowd.
