QUEEN CARNIVAL
MT. ALBERT SPORTS EFFORT
During the past few months the sporting section of the Mount Albert district has been busily engaged in an active campaign for funds, by means of a queen carnival competition. The campaign was brought to a successful conclusion on Saturday night with a crowning ceremony and dance in the King Georgo Hall. The clubs taking part were the Mount Albert Rugby League Football Club, the Mount Albert Ex-Service-men's Club and tho Mount Albert Bowling Club. Over 70,000 votes were cast, tho ex-servicemen's queen, Miss Hazel Murphy, being first; the bowler's queen, Miss Jean Thomas, second; and tho League's queen, Miss Anita Johnson, third. The hall was brilliantly decorated for the occasion, and there was an attendance of nearly 300 people. The coronation was a colourful and impressive spectacle. At the conclusion of the ceremony Mr. W. T. White, president of tho Ex-Servicemen's Club, and Mr. A. Blomclcy, president of the Bowling Club, thanked all those who had assisted in making tho function such an outstanding success. Tho queens were presented with beautiful bouquets on behalf of their supporters, and dancing concluded the evening's entertainment.
