SONGS OF THE SEA
ATHENIAN CLUB SOCIAL r A brightly entertaining evening arranged by the Athenian Club took place on Saturday night in the Amateur Operatic Society's hall. The theme was "A Night at Sea," and an appropriate setting, comprising a lighthouse, mermaids, a rugged sea coast and a boat with occupants singing sea chanties gave a realistic touch to the proceedings. Pearl novelties were distributed to the ladies and to tho men wore given sailor hats and masks. The hosts and hostesses were: — Mr. and Mrs. Salter, Mrs. K. Colwell, Miss Hazel Hairiey, Messrs. J. Smith and B. Jones.
The programme comprised songs by Miss Patricia McLeod, with flute accompaniment by Mr. Frank Poore, Mr. Leslie Russell and Mr. E. W. Ilobins, and magic by Mr. Brian Strickett.
