STREET CONGESTION

POSITION AT WANGANUI Attention to congestion caused in Wanganui's main streets by pedestrians using the wrong side of footpaths was directed in a letter from the Wanganni Chamber of Commerce read to tlio City Council. Mr. G. H. Trott asked what was tho by-law governing the matter. Ho added that there wore notices in some Idealities directing "keep to the left" and in others' "keep to tho right." There was some doubt among pedestrians as to which sido they should walk on. Tho Mayor, Mr. \V. .J. Rogers, replied that Wanganni had once undertaken a campaign to remind people that it was their duty to "keep to the left." Mr. F. C. Atkinson: Tho chief trouble is that people stand in the middle ol the street and talk. Mr. Trott: 1 suggest that "keep to tho left" notices bo displayed as prominently as possible.
