CHANGEABLE IN WEST FAIR TO FINE IN EAST \ The weather report and forecast f o j> New Zealand, issued last evening h y the Government meteorologist, were as follows:—A depression is; passing away eastwards off the South Island and an anti-cyclone centred over Kastern Atistralia now covers the Tasman Sea and Northern New Zealand; The forecast i.s for westerly winds at first in parts of the Cook Strait area, but otherwise south-westerlies prevailing, moderate to strong generally and in places reaching gale force, but later decreasing, veering again to westerlies to-morrow in the" far south. Seas_ rough on the west coast and about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere moderate to rather rough in coastal waters, but rougher off shore. Kastern Tasman Sea: Strong southwesterly winds and rough seas, but wind and sea shortly moderating. The weather is likely to be changeable with further passing showers i.n western districts and some scattered showers prob- . ;ibie also on the east coast south of Cook Strait, still mainly fair to fine, however, in eastern areas and conditions improving to-morrow in most tricts. Cold night, with more sharp frosts. " SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FA IR, BECOMING MILDER The Government meteorologist issued to the H Kit a i.i) last evening the followinjr special forecast for the Auckland Province: —.Moderate to strong, but decreasing, south-westerly winds. A few passing showers at first, mainly in the westeni area, but tiio weather for the • most part is likely to be fair to fine, and becoming gradually milder. Seas rough on the west c;onst, and rather rough offshore on the oast coast, but later decreasing generally. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. Cold conditions again ruled yesterday. The morning was fine but the conditions later were cloudy and showers fell. The wind during the day was fresh from the west-south-west, veering in the evening to the south-west. The maximum temperature in the shade was 55 degrees. The barometer rose steadily. Barometer, midnight, rising ■> 30.15 in, Midnight, Wednesday .. 29.951n, Wellington. —It was beautifully fins and sunny to-day, with a light northerly wind. Christchnrch. —The day was fine and sunny with a light south-west wind, The 'barometer rose sharply during the day and registered 29.78 inches at 5 p.m. - Dunedin. —Cold and wintry weather prevailed in Dunedin to-day. a strong south-westerly breeze being accompanied by scattered showers of rain.
