EMBROIDERED BELTS

Belts are evidently to remain as important a dress accessory as ever this Bummor, and although they can {ie bought in great variety there will always bo occasions when ono specially designed is better than any ready made. /It may be needed to complete gome scheino of embroidered decoration, as happened with tho belt given in diagram No. I. This was made of tho frbek material, in this instance cream wool crepe, and instead of the obvious bucklo fastening tlireo small black bone rings were attached to each end of the belt strip; through these bright-red silk cord was laced, the same shade being used for tho darned triangular ornament. ..Blocks' of darning in contrasting colour make effective and quickly worked decoration; the lines of darning should /be close together and only a tiny bit of material picked up between the stitches. (See diagram No. JI .) There arc endless ways of arranging the darned motifs, which may lie diamond shaped, as in diagram No. Ilia., where they are used alternately with small squares; circular, as in diagram No. Jllb., used in conjunction with a couple of horizontal darned lines broken by vandvkes; or oblong, as in diagram No. illc. Wool, cotton, or silk threads are all suitable, but they should bo thick enough to give a bold effect.
