FOUND ASLEEP IN CAR
INTOXICATION CHARGE LAID SALESMAN LOSES LICENCE [BY TELEGIUPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION"] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday A salesman, Joseph Reid Taylor, aged 20, was a guest at the City Council traffic inspectors' dance last night, and in the Magistrate's Court to-day he pleaded guilty to being intoxicated in charge of a car in Armagh Street last night. Taylor was fined £lO, and his driver's licence was cancelled for 12 months.
Sub-Inspector McLean said that Taylor was found in the front seat of a rental car by two traffic inspectors, and they were satisfied he was intoxicated. Counsel "contended that the offence was a technical one. Taylor had been to the traffic inspectors' dance and had had a number of drinks. He felt unwell so he went "to the car, unlocked the door, threw the keys on the floor and fell asleep. Taylor had made no attempt to drive the car.
