SUBURBAN BUSES
THE MANGERE SERVICE INTERESTS OF PAPATOETOE Concern over the projected abandonment of the bus service between Papatoetoe and the city, via Mangere, was expressed last night by the Papatoetoe Town Board. Advice was received from the No. 1 Licensing Authority that at its meeting to-morrow the relinquishing of this particular service would be considered. The chairman, Mr. \V. J. Nicholson, said the present operators of the service had notified their intention to abandon it. Mr. W. A. Cairns said Papatoetoe's needs were linked with the Mangere service, and he would favour co-operat-ing with the Manukau County Council and other interested authorities in pressing for a revision of the whole service. What was required, continued Mr. Cairns, was a circular route service from the Monument at .Otahuhu and through Papatoetoe and part of Mangere to the original starting point. That would give Papatoetoe a suitable internal transport service. The chairman said the clerk had previously been authorised to discuss internal services with the company. That was distinct from the Mangere service. Mr. Nicholson said he understood that now interests were to seek a licence for the Mangere district. The board should support such application and urge that the terminus bo on the eastern side of Papatoetoe to give reasonable facilities. The chairman's suggestion was adopted; ,
