MOTOR TAXATION
RELIEF TO BE SOUGHT REDUCED LEVY ON PETROL [BY TELKGRAPH I'RKSS ASSOCIATION'] DUNEDIN, Tuesday The intention of motorists to ask for some relief from taxation this year was referred to by Mr. E. .T. Anderson, speaking for the Automobile Assoeiaiton (Otago) at the annual meeting of the Otago Expansion League. He stated that motorists intended to seek the lifting of the 4,Jd a gallon petrol tax, imposed by ; the previous Government as an emergency measure and accepted as such.
It was also proposed to ask that the practice of paying subsidies on rates to local bodies bo abolished, that tho diversion of main highways funds to the Consolidated Fund be definitely discontinued, and that the charging of interest on past free grants by the Highways Board bo discontinued.
