OBITUARY

MR. W. M. McCONACH IE The death has occurred at Paeroa of Mr. William Martin McConachie, aged 62. who was well ftnown in the mining industry. Born in the Thames district, Mr. McConachie began work in the Martha Mine, Waihi, at the age of 14. He was one of the first students at the Waihi School of Mines under the late Mr. P. G. Morgan, and became shift-boss at the Martha mine after he had passed his manager's examination. He left that position 29 years ago to become mine manager at the Grand Junction mine, where he remained until 1923. Later, Mr. McConachie was mine manager at Muir's Reefs, Te Puke, the Ohinemuri gold and silver mines and at the Talisman Dubbo mine at Karangahake from 1034 until this year. He was an old member of tho Waihi Rugby Union, of which for many years he had been sole selector. Ho was also a well-known bowler. Ho is survived by his wife and two sons.

MRS. M. E. BISHOP The death lias occurred after an illness of about eight months of Mrs. Mary Elinor Bishop, aged 91, widow of the late Mr. A. W. Bishop, of Fiji. Born in Shropshire, Mrs. Bishop wont to Australia with her parents, who settled at Adelaide. Mrs. Bishop was married in October, 1872, and resided in Australia until 1894. when she and her husband went to Fiji, where Mr. Bishop became a planter. Ho had formerly been engaged in farming in Australia. He died in Fiji 12 years ago. Mrs. Bishop came to Auckland in 19:51 with her daughter and son-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Addis, taking up her residence with them at Stanley Bay, where she had since remained. She is survived by two daughters. In spite of her age, Mrs. Bishop retained her faculties to a remarkable degree and until a few months ago never used spectacles.
