SWAMP DRAINAGE PLAN
2400 AQRES IN TARANAKI [BY TELEGKAI'IT—OWN C 01111 ICS P ON" I) KNT ] PALMEHBTON NORTH, Friday The possibility of some 2400 acres of swamp near Douglas, in the Tnrnnnki district, being drained and converted into first-class farm land was brought to the notice of .Mr. J. Hodgens, M.P. for Pahnerston North, during a tour of the district. As the result of representations made to him as associate of the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R* Semple, Mr. Hodgens promised to place the facts before the Minister in ■Wellington. Mr. Hodgens said the previous Government had,surveyed the area and the settlors were of the opinion that if a ■,J"g main drain were put down so that they could run secondary drains into it the swamp could be turned into a aefmito asset to the Dominion as a Whole, They were prepared to contpbute to the cost corresponding with ■;sneir interests in the scheme.
