FINE IN MOST DISTRICTS' FROSTS AND MORNING FOGS The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —An intense anti-cyclone covers Australia and extends across the North Tasman Sea on to New Zealand. A series of very slight depressions continues to pass in the south. The forecast is* for westerly to northerly -winds at times about Cook and Foveaux Straits and on parts of the east coast, but south-westerlies or southerlies prevailing generally, strong at times in the far south, but otherwise light to moderate in force. Seap rather rough about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: South-westerly winds inthe northern portion and north-west to south-west prevailing in the southern portion, force light to moderate mainly, but freshening at times in the southern portion; seas ' slight to moderate. The weather is likely to be still fine in most districts. Showers are probable, however, in the far south, and also a few isolated light showers in Westland and on the south-east coast of Otago. A cold night, with further sharp frosts and some rooming fogs.
SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FINE, WITH FHOSTS INLAND The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkrat.d last evening the following special forecast for the; Auckland Province: —Light to moderate southwesterly winds. The weather is likely to be 'mainly fine, with cold night temperatures and some inland frosts. Seas slight to moderate.YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Unsettled weather prevailed in Auckland yesterday. There were several showers in the morning, and although the early afternoon was fine, there was another sharp shower shortly before four o'clock. A moderate southerly to south-westerly wind prevailed, and the air was chilly toward evening. Rain fell again after 10 p.m., but- the sky cleared later. The barometer remained steady throughout the day, and the temperature at 4 p.m. was 59 degrees. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.25fn. Midnight, Wednesday .. 30.20 in. Wellington.—Until about 9.3Q a.m. it was cloudy, but it then cleared and the remainder of the day was brilliantly fine, x with a gentle northwesterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 53.9 degrees. , Christchureh.—The day was fine and sunny with very little wind. The maximum temperature was 50.5 degrees, the highest for a fortnight. The barometer was steady and registered 30.16 inches at 5' p.m. Dunedin. —The day was fine and mild, with practically no wind. The temperature reached a maximum of 55 degrees.
