INCIDENCE OF DISEASE

MANY PNEUMONIA CASES WAIKATO HOSPITAL PATIENTS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday An exceptionally large number of pneumonia patients was treated in the Waikato Hospital during the year ended March 31. 1937, there being 227 cases, as against 97 for the previous year. There were 44 fatal cases of pneumonia last year as against 14 for the previous year. Other statistics of diseases and accidents treated in the hospital were as follows, the figures for the corresponding period last year being given_ «n parentheses:—Diphtheria, 48 (<3); typhoid, 37 (36); scarlet fever, 24 (39); tuberculosis, 108 (121); diabetes, 50 (53); mental diseases, 19 (20); cancer, 61 (76); appendicitis, 31S (366); injuries due to <accidents. 549 (505); goitre, 80 (58). No cases of infantile paralysis were noted, as most of the Waikato cases were reported after March 31.
