FAMOUS HORSE DEAD
PULLED STATE COACH LAST DAYS AT POLO CLUB [from a special correspondent] LONDON, June 12 On the eve of tho Coronation of George YT. there occurred the death of the 35-year-old horse Amazon, who was one of the famous team of eight cream horses which drew the State coach at tho Coronation of George V. in 1911.
When the "creams" were disbanded
in 1914 Amazon and another, Bradley, were presented to the Ranelagh Polo Club. There they lived in retirement, Bradley dying in 1930.
An official of the club said: "We sha
miss Amazon sorely—he was a dear old fellow and loved by all of us. Although 35 years old he still liked his spot of work and did all the light jobs, such as mowing the lawns and pulling the small rollers. " Sometimes we decked him out as
nearly as we could in all his old regalia, and I really believe he used to remember then the State coach and the cheering crowds of his heydey, for he snorted and stamped like a charger on the battlefield. He was happiest on Children's Day, which is an annual function here. The children clamoured for rides on his back, and ho would carry! them gently round for hours on end. Ho loved children."
