FROZEN BEER
CANTERBURY COLD SNAP
Very cold conditions were experienced on a recent night in the bark eounfrv of Canterbury and many hot water cisterns and ])ipes could not stand the strain. Most of the houses at Avoea were without hot water the following morning, hut the position was worse at the 13 e a ley Hotel. The proprietress, Mrs. R. Ferguson, reported that practically all the bottles of beer and soft drinks had bunst, leaving the broken glass lying round the frozen drinks. All the motor-lorries in that district had to be thawed out with hot water before they could be started.
