Figures compiled by the registrar of births, deaths and marriages at Auckland show that 50 more marriage licences were issued in the half year ended yesterday than during the same period last year, the figures being 1-106 and 1356 respectively.

Marriages performed by the registrar declined in number from 298 to 288 for the six months period, and from 57 to 54 during the month of June. 'llie number of licences issued in June this year was 226, compared with 220 in the same month last year. Tlie number of births registered during the first six months of the year shows a decline of seven over the figures for last year. A total of 1327 births was registered in Auckland up to yesterday, as compared with 1331 in the first half of 1936. Births registered in June totalled 211, an increase of 31 on the figures for June of last year.

An increase of 41 in the number of deaths during the . past six months compared with the total for the same period last year is recorded. Yesterday the total for the year stood at 1002. the figure for the first six months of 1936 being 961. Deaths recorded during June numbered 197, a decrease of 10 over the figures for June of last year. FIGURES FOR HAMILTON FALL IN BIRTHS RECORDED [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday Births in Hamilton during June totalled 41, deaths 32, and marriages 37. The figures for the six this year, with those for the first six months of last year in parentheses, are as follows:—Births, 257 (298); deaths, 152 (155), marriages, IS7 (177).
