Eraser, in Whangarei to-day. Further representations regarding facilities at the Whangarei High School were made to him by members of the board of governors, and in the afternoon lie visited the Whangarei and Wliau Valley primary schools. One point of general interest raised by the High School board concerned the granting of bursaries to country children to enable them to continue their post-primary education, it was stated that occasionally outstanding pupils Avert; handicapped because they lived in the back blocks and their parents found it difficult to arrange board for them in Whangarei. The Minister said the problem was not confined to North Auckland. There were certain opportunities for brilliant children already and the Government was paying a boarding allowance of os a week for country children. Something more might be desirable in certain cases, but the matter would require full investigation.
