FAIR TO FINE IN WEST
HEAVY RAIN IN FAR NORTH
The weather report and forecast -for Isevr Zealand, issued last evening foj the Government meteorologist,' wore follows:—Pressure is still high over the Tasman and New Zealand area.;, but a shallow depression is at present located north of the Dominion. The forecast is for south-easterly to easterly winds pre*, vailing, strong at times about Cooi Strait and in the far north, but other-, wise light to moderate. Seas rathor rough to rough north of East Cape and in the Cook Strait area; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate winds between east and south-east, with slight to moderate seas. The weather is likely to be fair co fine in districts with" 3 westerly aspect and also the interior arid for the southern parts of the South Island; elsewhere cloudy to overcast with rain at times in the northern and north-eastern portion of the North Island, heavy at places in the far north; occasional showers or misty rain also in eastern areas. Temperatures sti'l cold. '
SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST
INTERMITTENT RAIN
The Government meteorologist issued to the Hf.rald last evening, the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate to strong easterly to south-easterly winds. The weather is likely to be dull and mistv with intermittent, rain, heavy in place;). Temperatures cold. Seas rather rougjii to rough on the east coast and moderate on the west coast.
YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Rain practically without cessation was experienced yesterday, the wind being lip;hi; from the south-south-east. The temperature at 4 p.m. was 55 degrees. The barometer dropped and at mid-day started to fall sharply. . Barometer, midnight, falling .." 29.85 in. Midnight, Tuesday .. .. 30.18 in! Wellington.—lt was overcast with' occasional light showers in the morning, hut improved somewhat in the • afternoon. A cold southerly breeze prevailed. The maximum temperature was 45.-3 degrees. . Christchurch.-—The day was again cold and overcast, with• occasional drizzling rain. The maximum temperature was 42.4 degrees. A light southwest wind was blowing. The barometer | was steady, and registered 30.33 in. at 5 p.m. Dunedin. —Dull and foggy conditions prevailed, but although the maximum temperature was only 46 degrees, .i complete absence of wind helped to keep conditions mild..
