MAINLY FAIR TO FINE TEMPERATURES MILDER The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —An intense anti-cyclone extends across the Tasman Sea on to New Zealand, but pressure is still relatively low to the north and has commenced to fall over Eastern Australia. The forecast is for southerly to southeasterly winds, light to moderate generally, but freshening somewhat at times about Cook Strait and in the far north and later becoming more variable, but tending easterly over the northern half of the North Island and northerly in the South. Seas: A considerable easterly swell from Havke's Bay northwards; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate south-east., to easterly winds, backing to northerlies in the southern portion; seas slight to moderate. Some scattered showers are still probable in the eastern coastal areas of the North Island and in the far north, but improving and elsewhere the weather is likely to be fair to fine; cold night with many frosts, but milder to-moi-row.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST MAINLY FAIR AND .MILDER The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province; —Light to moderate southeast to easterly winds, freshening somewhat at times in the far north. A few scattered showers are probable in the far north and on the east coast, but the weather is likely to be mainly fair and becoming milder. Seas slight to moderate on the west coast; a considerable easterly swell on the east coast.

YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Fine, sunny conditions with a slight southerly wind .were experienced during the day. Temperatures in the shade were cold, the reading at 4 p.m. being 55 degrees. Last night was cloudy but fine. The barometer continued to be steady.

Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.25 in, Midnight, Sunday .. .. 30.10 in. Wellington.—The day was cold and overcast, with occasional passing showers in the morning. A south-easterly breeze prevailed throughout the day. The maximum temperature was 45.1 degrees.

Christchurch. —The morning was fine and sunny, but the sky was overcast in the afternoon. A light south-west wind was blowing. The maximum temperature was 42.1 degrees. The barometer read 30.412 inches at 5 p.m. Dunedin. —The most severe host experienced in Dunedin for some time occurred yesterday morning, when in the coldest parts of the city as much as 13J degrees of frost were recorded. In the centre of the city the lowest temperature for the 24 hours ended at 6 p.m. to-day was 28 degrees, four degrees of frost. The sky was clear in the morning, but was cloudy .throughout the afternoon, the sun shining for only a short period. The barometer was steady at 30.45 inches.
