Mitchell, who received the C.B.E. in 1932 for his services to British aviation, particularly in connection with the Schneider Trophy contest, was direc-

tor of aiuP chief designer to the Supermarine Aviation Works (Vickers), Limited. Ho had designed the aircraft produced by this firm since 1920, including four British Schneider Trophy winners. Ho was born at Stoke-on-Trent.
