Reference to Austral New Zealand Mining, Limited (West Coast), was made by Mr. H. Huntsman, chairman of Austral Malay Tin, Limited, at the annual meeting in the Federated Malay States recently. Mr. Huntsman said that the original selected area consisted of 28,000.000 cubic yards, of an average value of three grains gold per cubic yard. Later boring indicated the probable occurrence of at least a further 28.000.000 cubic yards of payable ground, expected to yield about two grains per cubic yard. Indications from further prospecting were that, though there was a considerable area of ground suitable for dredging, the gold contents were not likely to prove of anv great economic value. An order had been placed for a large electrically-operated dredge. As a result of shortage of steel, it was difficult to say when the dredge would be ready to dig. It was hoped that erection of the pontoon would commence shortly. WEST AUSTRALIAN YIELD The gold output of Western Australia for May amounted to 50.440 fine ounces, exceeding by almost 5000 ounces the yield for the previous month. The present rate of increase, if maintained, will result in an output for 1937 of more than 1.000,000 ounces for the first time in 21 vears. The estimated value of last month's yield is £746,312 in Australian currency.' Production for the first five months'of the year totals 389,452 fin* ounces.
