DEMAND FOR FAT SHEEP BREEDING EWES SHOW A RISE [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TE KUITI, Saturday Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having hold the usual sale at Piopio on Thursday, when a small yarding of sheep and cattle came forward. Hoggets were a trifle easier than of late. At Te Kuiti yesterday, when a medium yarding of sheep came forward, medium class hoggets were again easier, though good white-faced wether hoggets made late rates. Ewes were yarded in fair numbers, old ewes not meeting with the ready sale that was expected, though good quality ewes sold well. Quotations at Piopio:—Two-tooth wethers, 2(>s 3d; good wether hoggets, 20s lid to 225; medium ewe hoggets, 25s 'Jd; goodcondition blaek-faccd hoggets, 17s -Id; small black-faced hoggets, 13s Id; boner cows, 355; small Polled Angus steer calves, £3. A comidcto herd of dairy cows averaged £5. Mitchell, conducted by the Farmers' Auctioneering Company, Limited, was continued yesterday, when the remaining pedigree yearling Jersey heifers arid calves and grade cows were offered. There was again a large attendance of buyers, most of the visitors from other districts having remained for the secrfrid day. Yearling pedigree heifers ranged in price from 3 guineas to 11 guineas. Mr. M. Montgomerie, of Mangere, secured i two very choice beasts at the latter figure. Mr. Rcnnie, of Auckland, purchased two at 10 guineas. Many purchases of pedigree yearling heifers were made by local buyers, among whom were Messrs. L. A. Hintz, J. X. Blamires, J. F. Levis and M. A. Wilkins. j Pedigree Friesian calves from one week to; three weeks ranged in value from 11/ al l / a to 4 j guineas. Grade cows sold exceptionally well j under keen competition, the top price of £l6 10s being paid by Mr. W. P. Ryan, of Matamata. for two very choice cows. NGARUAWAHIA CATTLE PRICES The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, reports that at the Ngaruawahia sale the advertised herds on account of Mr. B. Cook, Te Kowhai, and Mr. R. Shaw, Ngaruawahia, came forward. The demand for dairy cattle was not as keen as in other centres, but practically a total clearance was effected. The herd of 58 Jersey cows on account of Mr. 1?. Shaw averaged £0 18s, while the herd of Ayrshire cows on account of Mr. B. Cook averaged £(>. There was a medium entry of beef and store cattle, with competition keen and prices realised on a par with recent quotations. MORRINSVILLE QUOTATIONS The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agencv Company, Limited, Hamilton, reports that at the Morrinsville sale the yarding was moderate. It comprised a few pens of medium flit Shorthorn heifers, several pens of dairy heifers and a small yarding of dairy cows, the balance being unfinished .Terseys, stores and boners. Butchers' cattle commanded quite keen competition and sold well, with prices very firm. The consistent demand for exporters' cattle at all centres at present was maintained for the entry of this class, which elicited strong bidding, without alteration from former quotations. The dairy cattle sold satisfactorily without noticeable fluctuation. Limited, reports as follows on its Te Awaniutu stock sale: —Fat and store cattle: Good cow and heifer beef was penned in large numbers, but ox beef was in comparatively light supply. Spirited competition was forthcoming for heavy cow and heifer beef, which all sold readily nt prices showing a slight movement in favour of vendors from recent Frankton quotations. The bidding for ox beef was slacker. Messrs. W. ,T. and TT. IT. Thompson were paid £lO 10s for a prime Shorthorn heifer, the buyer being Mr. ,T. Middlebrook. Mr. IT. Maxwell purchased from the same vendor two medium Shorthorn heifers at £S 5s and two prime Shorthorn-cross cows nt £9 -Is. For four lieifers Mr. A. L. Storey received £8 5s each, the buyer being Mr. T. IT. Welch. Two more from Mr. Storey were bought at £7 15s by Mr. TT. Maxwell. Quite good numbers came forward in the store, anil boner section and drew eager bidding. Hates did not fluctuate from the high levels current hitherto and a complete clearance was readily effected. Dairy cattle: In the vicinity of 200 head were penned. The average quality was only plain and competition consequently only fair. Early calvers and quality cows were briskly competed for and rates for the later ones would be eoual to those quoted nt other recent sales. Most of the dairy heifers were of mediocre class. These sold satisfactorily. Tlio entry included the advertised herd on account of Messrs. KUis Bros., as well as several other small herds. Good Jersey cows, due early. £8 5s to Cf) 10s; medium class Jersey dairy cows, CO 10s to £7 15s; more backward, £5 to CO 10s; early heifers. £7 5s to £8 ss; others, up to £7. Sheep: Wethers were comparatively scarce and there was an absence of prime quality. Prices did not alter. Most of a fairly heavy entry of fat ewes were in different sorts and these were traded at prevailing prices, exporters i articulurly being busy in this section. Both fat and store lambs were in large supply. The former maintained staid,•. values, while the hitter were well sought after by n good attendance of buyers. Practically everything in the sheep section changed hands.
