ILL-TREATMENT OF COW
MAORI FINED IN NORTH [ nr TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] KAITAIA, Monday On the charge of having ill-treated a cow, a Pamapuria native, Panne Murray,' was fined £-'5 and costs by the justices at the Kaitaia Police Court to-day. The defendant, who pleaded guilty, was represented by Mr. Kelly. The charge arose out of facts brought to the police of Murray leaving his cows unmilked for two days and consequently causing pain 1o one which had just calved. Defendant stated that he had been at Parapara for two days owing to the death of a relative, leaving his daughter to milk the animals. Fie admitted the facts, but stated that his daughter should have obeyed the orders. In fining the defendant, Mr. Taaffe, one of the justices, stated that more definite arrangements should have been made for the welfare of the animals.
