ROAD BOARD YEAR
MOUNT ROSKILL PROGRESS NO INCREASE IN RATES A statement that there would be no increase in general rates in the coming year was made by Mr. C. M. McCullough, chairman of the Mount Roskill Road Board, at the annual meeting of ratepayers last night. There was an attendance of 20. Before presenting his annual report Mr. McCullough stated that this showed a regrettable lack of interest in district affairs, but he pointed out that the position might be taken as an indication that ratepayers were fully satisfied with the work of the board. In view of the general improvement in economic conditions the board had extended its public works programme beyond the figure originally adopted in its estimates. Increased revenue had warranted this policy and had justified the board's action. The policy of constructing concrete footpaths throughout the district had, after a year's operation, proved an unqualified success from the point of view of cost and permanence. The concreting of the board's section of the Mount Albert Road was one of the major works of the year. The task of scaling roads and concreting footpaths would be continued as fast as possible during the coming year. Several ratepayers expressed satisfaction with the work of the board and its staff.
