FASTER EXPRESSES
MAIN TRUNK SERVICES IMPROVEMENTS ANNOUNCED OPERATION FROM JUNE 20 Substantial reductions in the running times of express trains between Auckland and Wellington will be made from June 20, faster services being made possible with the opening of the new station at Wellington and the improved grade of the new 'WellingtonTawa Flat section. The Minister of Railways, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, has announced shorter time-schedules for both the ordinary and limited expresses.
From June 20 the ordinary express will leave each terminal at 3 p.m. and reach its destination 42 minutes earlier than it now does 011 the AucklandWellington run. The limited express from Auckland to Wellington will run to a tiuie-table 2G minutes shorter than the present one, and 10 minutes will be clipped from the north-bound limited schedule. Both limited expresses will leave their terminals at the same time, 7.15 p.m. At present the thrice-weekly Auck-land-New Plymouth train does not connect with the 3 p.m. north-bound express at Taumarunui, and the New Plymouth-Auckland train misses the connection with .the Auckland-Welling-ton limited express at Taumarunui. With the new time-table this difficulty will be overcome. The 7.10 p.m. express from New Plymouth will be accelerated to make the connection at Taumarunui with the Auckland-Wellington limited express, and the train from Taumarunui, which is due to arrive at New Plymouth at 7.19 a.m., will connect with the afternoon Wellington-Auck-land express. In this way, additional connections will be provided to and from the Main Trunk stations south of Taumarunui with the thrice-weekly expresses between Auckland and New Plymouth.
