BANKRUPTCY CASES
WOMAN ADJUDICATED SEVERAL DISCHARGES GRANTED Several bankruptcy matters were dealt with by Mr. Justice Callan in the Supreme Court yesterday. In asking that Mrs. Angela Elliott, formerly of Opotiki but "now of parts unknown," be adjudicated bankrupt, Mr. Gray, on behalf of tbe petitioning creditor, said the circumstances were somewhat unusual. It was alleged that the debtor had made a strong effort to defeat her creditors, and that was proved by affidavits. The chairman of directors of Wingate and Company, Mr. M. M. McCallum, gave evidence that his firm had allowed Mrs. Elliott and her partner £543 credit. A dividend of £B2 had been paid oft' this, leaving £IGI still owing. His Honor made an order of adjudication. In the case of John Buchan. of Auckland, fisherman (Mr. Baeyertz), who sought discharge from bankruptcy, the Official Assignee, Mr. A. W. Waiters, recommended that it be granted only subject to suspension. Discharge was granted subject to three months' suspension. The following were granted their discharges: —James George Mignot, of Auckland, builder (Mr. Gray); Tom Sundc, of Dargaville, contractor (Mr. Griffiths).
