MOSTLY FAIR AND MILD SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS The weather report and forecast for New Zealand, issued last evening by the Government meteorologist, were as follows: —Pressure is now high over and east of New Zealand and also over the greater part of Australia, but a depression of moderate intensity covers the south-west and central portions of the Tasman Sea. The forecast is for light to moderate and variable winds, but north'erlies soon prevailing and later freshening somewhat. Seas slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate northerly winds, later tending westerly in the southern portion and freshening; seas slight to moderate. The weather for the most part is likely to be fair and mild, but cloudy at times, with some scattered showers or misty rain at first in eastern areas and later in the western and southern districts of the South Island.
SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FAIR TO CLOUDY AND FINE The Government meteorologist issued to the Hkrald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate easterly to northerly winds. The weather is likely to be (air to cloudy and mild, hut somcj isolated showers are probable, more especially in the far north. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Fine hut cloudy weather prevailed yesterday. There was a light easterly wind during the day, but it changed to the south-east last night. The sky was overcast and temperatures were mild. The barometer was steady throughout the 24 hours. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.1 Oin. Midnight, Thursday .. 30.00 in. Wellington.—The day was calm and pleasant, though cloudy and hazy. The maximum temperature was 59.3 degrees. Christchurch.—The day was fine but cold, the sun shining for the greater part of the day. There was a very light south-westerly wind. The maximum temperature was 50 degrees. Dunedin.—The day was mild with several periods of sunshine. There was a heavy fog over the low-lying parts of the city both in the morning and in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 54 degrees and the barometer rose to 30.20 inches.
