Dr. J. R. Hosking has been selected as the recipient of the Hector Award bv the Council of the Royal.Society,of Ner Zealand in recognition of his researches in the chemistry of New Zealand plants and in resins. '
Mr. C. J. Tunks, chairman of tie Auckland branch of the St. John Ambulance Association, and Auckland district commissioner of the St. John Ambulance- Brigade, and Mr. K. R. Langstone, secretary-manager of the association's Auckland centre, are visiiing Gisborne.
Mr. A. G. Stephenson, of the Australian firm of Stephenson. Meldrum * and Turner, architects, will arrive at Auckland on Monday by the Mariposa from Sydney on his way to Wellington to supervise the reconstruction of the Wellington Hospital. Mr. Stephenson's, firm drew nlans and reported to the Auckland Hospital Board recently for tlie development of the Auckland pital.
Mr. S. J. Smith, secretary of the Cook Islands Department, Wellington, arrived at Auckland by the Limerick yesterday after spending some weeks in the Cook Islands inaugurating the system of Government control of fruit from the group. Mr. Smith will return to the Cook Islands to assume the position of Resident Commissioner, in snccession to Mr. H. F. Ayson. Chief Jndge, who is returning to New Zealand after morr than 20 years' service.
