CYCLIST KILLED

COLLISION WITH TRUCK IMPALED ON PLOUGH HANDLE FATALITY AT NEW LYNN A cyclist, Thomas Alban Tohill, aged 18. was killed at New Lynn shortly before 7.30 o'clock yesterday morning through striking his head on the iron handle of a plough projecting from the back of a stationary truck, on the Great North Road, at the Rewa Rewa filling. The youth, who resided with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rafael Tohill, of Arawa S.treet, New Lynn, was cycling to the boot factory of J. W. Moore and Son, Limited, at Kingsland. where he was employed as a boot clicker. He had descended an incline on the Great North Road near New Lynn when he collided with the back of a stationary truck laden with scrap iron and driven by Mr. A. B. Dowling, of New Lynn.

Mr. Dowling bad just backed out of a garage across to the left-hand side of the road facing Auckland when his engine stalled. He was preparing to start up again when he felt the impact, and a motorist, Mr. J. S. Scrivener, of Point Chevalier, who had been following in the track of the boy, advised him of of the accident. It .was found that the iron handle of one of two old ploughs included in the load of scrap iron had penetrated the boy's head between the eyes. Dr. W. G. Carew, of Avondale, was called, but death had been instantaneous.

An inquest will be opened before the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, this morning.
